Gmail Drive Installed and tested

Today i installed GmailDrive.

After setup it is a drive on your PC.
Files from local PC can be copied qnd moved to Gmaildrive.
Copied and moved about 6 MB on the account of my g.friend.
Sometimes i had an error like :

1) executable files not accepted.

2) An error occured unable to create file.
The connection with the server was reset.
The target cannot handle this type of document.

Not big problems. Setup is easy. Picture of Gmail
after backups next time if possible.

The speed is very variable according to netmeeter.

I donot dislike it and use it for backup of extracted
program files.

I heard somebody say that files bigger then 10 MB do
give problems but i didnot test that yet.

4Shared experiences

Today i tried the Multi-Upload feature which did give
I/O errors for all the selected files.
I did send an email to support about this.
I also downloaded the 4shared Uploader which also did give an error :
Couldnot establish connection to the server or something like
that was the error. I didnot send an email yet but probably will do
that. The single file Upload still does work ok.

Yahoo will begin offering unlimited storage for its free Web-based e-mail in May, the company announced late Tuesday. The move makes Yahoo the first of the major free e-mail providers to offer unlimited storage, but it likely will not be the last.

Yahoo currently offers 1 gigabyte for its free mail service and 2GB for its premium fee-based service. Google's free Gmail service offers more than 2.5GB of storage, and Windows Live Hotmail offers 2GB for free.

"We are watching the trend lines of how people are using e-mail...and they are sending more photos and videos and rich media," said John Kremer, vice president of Yahoo Mail.

Google began the storage wars in earnest when it launched Gmail in April 2004 with 1GB of storage. Yahoo Mail, which launched in 1997 with 4MB of storage, upgraded to 100MB of storage shortly after Google's Gmail announcement, bumped it up to 250MB in late 2004, and then up to 1GB in 2005.

With 250 million users, Yahoo Mail is the largest global e-mail provider and the largest in the U.S., according to comScore.

The unlimited storage will begin rolling out globally in May, and Yahoo expects to have all of its customers covered within a month, except for China and Japan. "We will continue working with these markets on their storage plans," Kremer said.

5 GIG free trial for 30 days

Gonna try this

http://www.backuptotheweb.com/download.htm

idea for the longer run : moving from free to free.

5 GiG free trial for 15 days

For a very temporary Backup Solution
this maybe something or ?

http://www.systemrecovery.com/5GB_free_trial.html

testing XDrive Yesterday.

Xdrive Signing in was a slow horrible process
5 giga free space looks attractive but at what cost.
I finally managed to upload 1.27 MB but it must
have taken me more then 2 hours to get "so far".

Upload 4 files to DropBok

Upload 4 files to DropBok. First Impression is that
4shared is a better choice. But 1 GIG and 50MB file
limited isnot that bad.

He is doing the same and this is interesting.

I found surfing the web this very intresting site :

http://www.habibbijan.com/2007/02/

The Free Drive Image for XP looks very intresting.
Besides he mentiones here DropBoks and Box.net
as BUOL alternatives.

ISO file of 29.2 MB Uploaded

Gparted ISO CD

Linux Partitioning tool
Freeware Alternative for Partition Magic.

Uploaded 29.2 MB
Elapsed Time : 1472 Sec
Transfer Rate 20.3 Kb/sec.

4Shared looks like a real BackupOnline solution.

Multiple File Upload

I tried the Multiple File Upload Function of 4shared
and it worked fine. Usefull to backup directorys in
one folder.

Quick Action Succesfull

4Shared still ok !
I have now (28 march 2007)about 2100 bookmarks on delicious
which i copied with deliwin and then printed with cutepdf so that
i converted the html file fron Deliwin in a PFD file.
I also could copy the pages in Delicious one by one and then merge them
as ONE PDF file but that I will have to look in if it is feasable.
So far so good.

So Far I Like It : 4shared

I tested about 2 hours 4shared and So far I like it.
Signing Up is Easy. Upload Speed is acceptable.
Terms and conditions also. For the Free account
it is necessary "to be there" once in 30 days.
50MB max file-seize dosnot look a problem .
Downloading speed looks ok.To copy to folder
wasnot something that i could find to do,but i can ask
that i suppose. I tested a 10MB upload and the first time
it failed 2nd time it went ok.

Used Mozy BackUp this morning

It worked but i still donot like it a lot.
it has a permanent service running and the look and feel
isnot what i would like it to be.
If I set the priority in the sysinternals process explorer to
Realtime it still doesnot get much CPU time.
And it is impossible to stop the running proces in a decent way.

243.3 MB of 2.2 GB used

According to my MOZY account i Uploaded
243.3 MB of 2.2 GB used.

Cannot find it yet but will re-evaluete it.

Downloaded Buddy Backup

I downloaded Buddy Backup .
Installation went ok after quick download.
But i donot understand this for the time being.
so i leqve it alone.

Logging in Not possible @ 45 gigs

Not possible to login to 45 gigs.
I did send them an email allready 3 days ago
with no response yet.
Getting worser and worser.

Only 6 folders possible ?

I tried to make a 7th folder but 45gig didnot accept
that : very limiting imho. Another negative .

Time to Upload

I noticed that 45gigs time is 8 hours earlier then here
so if I upload in the morning its about 12 in the USA
i donot think too much people are uploading at that time
so that could be an advantage.

To Move between two folders is possible

Not much of a deal but to move between two folders
is possible.

Not for Linux Yet

I checked Mozy backup and noticed that backupping
for their free plan isnot possible with Linux systems
like Ubuntu which i have, another reason to stay dual boot
for the time being.

Quiet annoying

The advertisment on the 45 gig page is quiet annoying
have to check this with a possible solution.
Something todo later .

2M Problem

Today i checked the 2M Problem which i have with
45 gigs : tried to upload a 5 MB file and it started
but faild after a few minutes, so i really cannot upload
files bigger then 2 MB which could be a problem.
Someday i will email them about this.
Uploading other PDF files (<2 M) went ok .
I need to check howlong files will stay available yet.

Oh Boy Email also doesnot work

Oh Boy (and girl),

Just tried to send them a long email and the email facility on their
site also doesnot work.
In general : that is a BAD start for 45 gigs.
Advantage of the doubt : they are working on their servers so
OK i will give them a week of 3 before i will decide to exit their services.

Allready Problems

I started this blogspot not from zero experience with BackUP-online
facilities. I am rather skeptical about this subject.
45 giga is a lot of space but i can only upload 2M per file if i understand
this ok. I Uploaded a few PDF files (little ones) and that went ok but
there is no progress bar so it is difficult to follow the process.
Then i couldnot get contact with the site (als0 not new for me if we are
talking about BUOL (Back Up On Line) ).
I am not going to spend hours and hours on one site but will adopt
a random approach : if A doesnot work then I go to C or H.
I will also try to contact the BUOL providers to tell them about my experiences.

Uploading to http://45gigs.com

Today i opened an free account @ http://45gigs.com
I want to Upload there PDF files with regards to specific topics.
for example as an Ubuntu-user i want to make a
database of HowTo's inUbuntu ,
i allready know there are a lot of them (the HowTo's)
so this could become a hughe database.
Other topics are also possible.
